Why Do I Feel Depressed, Lost, or Stuck?
People sometimes use words like depressed, lost, unmotivated and stuck to describe similar experiences, but they can mean different things. Understanding the difference matters because the kind of support that helps may be different too.
Feeling stuck or discouraged
You may feel dissatisfied with your direction, disconnected from goals, uncertain about a relationship or career, or frustrated that you are not following through. These experiences can be painful without necessarily meaning you have clinical depression.
Depression deserves appropriate care
Depression is more than a coaching challenge and cannot be diagnosed from a website. Persistent sadness or emptiness, loss of interest or pleasure, major changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty functioning, hopelessness, or thoughts of death or self-harm are reasons to talk with a qualified healthcare or mental-health professional.
Where life coaching can fit
Coaching is not therapy and does not diagnose or treat depression. It can be useful for people who want help clarifying goals, building routines, making decisions, improving accountability, finding direction or taking constructive steps in their lives. Some people work with a coach while also receiving appropriate mental-health care.
Start with the kind of help you need
If you are unsure, it is reasonable to begin by speaking with a healthcare professional. If your primary concern is direction, goals, habits, confidence or personal growth, a coaching conversation may help you decide on a practical next step.
